Why is Free actually free, not a trial?
Because your data never leaves your device on the Free plan, there's no server cost to recoup from you. The Free tier is the complete methodology. Every feature except multi-device sync. There's no feature cliff waiting to nudge you into paying.
What am I actually paying for on Sync and Complete?
Running a synced copy of your data so it shows up on more than one device, plus an encrypted backup of that synced copy. Local storage on each device stays the source of truth either way.
What happens to my data if I cancel?
Whatever is on each device stays on that device. Cancelling only stops new syncing, it doesn't delete anything local. See the data and privacy docs for the full picture of how deletion and sync interact.
